Social Media has played a big role in student movement, which played a key role in the formation of new state of Telangana. Several facebook communities have been set up which helped bring the people together. Just a facebook status update or twitter update is needed to flare up the communication on the state hood issue. It also helped provide feedback on what is going right & what is wrong. Youtube also proved to be a great platform with videos of the protests & movements getting thousands of views.

Social media was flooded with the information from nation’s capital on the developments in the state. Russian social network Odnoklassniki & WWF use “404 error pages” to Save endangered species

Russian social network service Odnoklassniki & WWF have joined hands for a unique campaign where by the 404 error pages found on Odnoklassniki is used to raise awareness of species on the verge of extinction. WWF’s “Rare Page” campaign is aimed at raising awareness of the plight of endangered species in Russia like snow leopard, tiger, polar bear & others. Many companies use 404 error pages creatively to target the users. This is one of the first instances where a 404 error page is used a campaign.

A ’404 not found’ error message appears when a user tries to access a webpage that doesn’t exist, because the link is broken or is no longer used. When a user visits a 404 error page() they will see a campaign page with the message like

“This page doesn’t exist on Odnoklassniki. It is as rare as the polar bear in the wild. Currently there are only 20-25 thousand polar bears left, but their popular might decrease by 2/3 in 30 years.”

Dumb Ways to Die – Campaign

Metro Trains in Melbourne, Australia came out with this creative “Dumb Ways to Die” a public service announcement campaign by to promote rail safety. The campaign has gone viral since its launch & has been shared on social media platforms.

Video was developed by Pat Baron, animated by Julian Frost and produced by Cinnamon Darvall. The campaign was devised by advertising agency McCann Melbourne. It has a tumblr account as well. The campaign has won 7 Webby Awards in 2013 including the Best Animation Film & Video and Best Public Service & Activism.

Bangalore, once the garden city, pensioners paradise & one of the most beautiful city in India has lost its image with the rise of IT/BT, population growth, real estate developments, un checked growth of the city & most importantly has lost its soul. Almost 50 kms of radius surrounding the city with Ramnagar on Mysore Road, Nelamangala on Tumkur road, Attibele on Hosur road & Intl airport on Bellary road & other important roads have been filled with commercial buildings, residential areas & industries. Water problem, Electricity, Traffic, corruption & others have become a part of daily life. Britain’s #RoyalBaby – Social Media, Brands Celebrating on Twitter & Live Cam

#RoyalBaby & other related hashtags have become a trending topic on Twitter & other social media with the birth of a Baby boy for Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Birth of baby, weighing 8lbs 6oz, was announced by Kensington Palace at 8.30pm.The Duke of Cambridge was by Kate’s side overnight.

The Guardian newspaper had a home page button with Republican & Royalist to see more or less of the Royal baby news. Archbishop Of Canterbury also tweeted congratulating the new parents. Many twitter accounts also made parody of the global coverage & media’s fascination.
