The number of views on Youtube has become a vital parameter in deciding the success of the film. Other sites like Tumblr, pinterest & others are also used to update with images & videos.

Krrish series has become one of the most successful movie in Bollywood. To promote the new Krrish 3 movie, a new microsite has been released. Twitter hashtag #Krrish3firstlook was promoted to reveal the Krrish 3 movie first look. The higher the number of tweets with this #Krrish3firstlook, microsite was designed to reveal more & more of the first look. President Obama has debuted on Instagram with the opening of an official White House account on Wednesday. There are instagram Videos as well & have received thousands of likes. Since Obama’s election in 2008, the White house has been active on many social media networks. Obama has been successful in using Social media for winning in the elections.

There is also a social hub on White house website listing all the social media profiles & showing how President Obama is committed to making this the most open and participatory administration. You can join online events with the White House officials, asking questions & also participate in various activities. On these profiles you’ll find news from the blog, behind-the-scenes photos/videos & other interesting stuff.

Internet Explorer India – #Shovel App & Twitter #Contest for IE10

Microsoft Internet Explorer India has launched an app called #Shovel, which analyses your Facebook profile & provides a wide range of statistics about your profile. There is also contest on twitter where you can answer the questions based on your #shovel results & win exciting prizes. These programs are part of their promotions for IE10 Browser. These apps are best designed to work on IE10. Internet Explorer India is showcasing “Social life- re imagined by Internet Explorer.”

With high competition in the browser space among Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer has gone for a social media based promotion to highlight their browser. You can click on ‘Start digging’ on the home page of the app to start with Shovel. The app gives you the stats on your Photos, Tags, Friends, Likes and Updates. I did try the app for my profile & the app returned a wonderful stats on friends who are tagged, how many pics you have been tagged, friends based on geos, the number of likes on your photos, likes done by you & other information.



Adobe’s “Click Here: The State of Online Advertising” Report

Do you find Online advertising effective or does it interest you or annoy you? Online advertising has come a long way since the early days of internet. Adobe commissioned a study with Edelman Berland for an online survey of 8750 consumers & 1750 professional marketers across the US, France, Germany, UK, Australia, Japan & South Korea during Oct’12 – Apr’13. This data provides a great wealth of information from both the marketers & consumers point of view. Some of the data from the report are

1) Traditional Media is considered the best for mktg & advt & also for credibility about products & brands.
2) France, Japan & Australia like to enjoy reading & Viewing Advt
3) Majority of consumers & marketers believe TV commercials are more important than online advertising
4) Majority of consumers in UK, US, Germany & Australia find online ads are annoying
5) Over half of respondents have liked on behalf of their favorite brands

Google’s Project Loon to Power Internet to Billions of People

Project Loon is a network of balloons travelling on the edge of space, to connect people in remote & rural areas & to help people back online after disasters. This is a project by Google. Much of the world’s population doesn’t yet have access to net & many projects are going on across the world to help people connect. Mobile internet played a key role in bridging this divide. Over 2.7 billion people are using the internet in 2013

Project Loon balloons float in the stratosphere. The balloons travel at 20 km above the earth surface in the stratosphere. Winds carry the balloons and they can move up or down depending on the wind direction. People can connect to the balloon network using a special Internet antenna. This will be attached to their building. The signal bounces from balloon to balloon, then to the global Internet back on Earth.

Sophisticated softwares are used to determine how the balloons should move to move with the wind to form a communication network. Project Loon currently uses ISM bands to communicate. Project Loon has started in June 2013 with an experimental pilot project in Christchurch and Canterbury, New Zealand. The link to Project Loon Google+ page

Uttarakhand Floods – Role of Social Media & other helpful Weblinks for Information

Floods in Uttarakhand have created havoc with thousands of people stranded in different parts of the state. Several thousand are missing & many have been killed as well. This has been described as the Himalayan Tsunami. The relief operations are in full swing with Army, Airforce, NDRA & others pitching in for rescuing people. One of the worst-affected is Kedarnath town with areas like Badrinath, Yamunotri & others. Several helicopters have been deployed with Food, medicines and other essentials were also carried to the needy.

Several states have announced financial, medical & other help to the Uttarakhand govt to help over come the crisis. This flood has also created a debate over whether this is due to Man made calamity or nature’s fury. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh appealed to the people of India to stand with all those who are going through this harrowing time & appealed for donations Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Several ‘dharamashalas’ (rest houses for pilgrims) have also been swept away in the floods.
