Twiplomacy 2013 is the study of World leaders on Twitter by Burson-Marsteller. 77.7% of the 193 UN member countries have a presence on Twitter with heads of the state, various ministers & foreign affairs ministry. Some of these leaders tweet on their own. Twitter has become a powerful communication medium allowing communication with their respective followers. Many leaders across the world follow Barack Obama & White House. Swedish Foreign Minister @CarlBildt is the best connected world leader & Ugandan Prime Minister @AmamaMbabazi is the most conversational world leader. Many govt websites also have twitter news feed on their website.

Argentina’s President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner @CFKArgentina is the Latin America’s most followed leader with over 2.1 million followers & Australia’s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd @KRuddMP is among the most conversational leaders. @BarackObama was the first world leader to join Twitter. Obama used Social media extensively during his elections campaign. The tweet sent by Obama after the elections in 2012 is the most popular tweet ever, retweeted 806,066 times. 7 of the G8 leaders have a personal Twitter account & @Pontifex is the second most followed world leader.
